Brookline Arts Center Recruits New Artists for the 36th Annual Crafts Showcase
For 36 years, the Brookline Arts Center has hosted a Crafts Showcase for three weeks each December. Over the decades, the art that fills the Arts Center’s Victorian building has changed. From hand-made dolls to ceramic dishware, the styles keep changing, while the emphasis on quality, beauty and usefulness has stayed the same.
“The new styles for decorating and fashion are based on handmade crafts, with personal style married to high quality,” says Brookline Arts Center Executive Director Susan Navarre. “Te Brookline Arts Center is actively searching out local artists and craftsmen for our exciting annual Crafts Showcase this December.”
The 36th annual Crafts Showcase is planned for December 2 through 19, 2010. A jury of artists, curators and collectors will meet to select artists in August, and the Brookline Arts Center and the Crafts Showcase organizers are seeking new artists now. The postmark deadline for applications is Friday, August 6, 2010.
“This is our most important annual fundraiser, especially because it helps artists make a living by bringing their work to a new audience during the important holiday gift-buying season. And of course, the sale also supports the programs of the Brookline Arts Center, which we all love,” says artist Manika Srivastav, President of the Brookline Arts Center.
The Brookline Arts Center was founded 46 years ago, and offers affordable art classes for adults and children, along with gallery exhibitions of contemporary art, gallery talks, and special events with regional artists. In addition, the BAC provides free art classes and scholarships for low-income students.
To receive an application to apply for the Crafts Showcase, artists should call the BAC at 617-566-5715 or email cs@brooklineartscenter.com. For more information about the Crafts Showcase, visithttp://www.brooklineartscenter.com/events/exhibitions/craftsshowcase2010.html
