WeAC Month Five at The Brookline Community Foundation was a Major Success. We're more than half way there.
Check out great photos from this weekend's weatherization barn-raising at BCF. Thanks to BCF for the great snacks and suds at Village Smokehouse afterward.
Here's a general description of what got done:
Installed 18-in of R-40 open blown cellulose insulation at the Attic Flat(Anderson Insulation)- Thanks to Fran Malinn Electric for repairing the squirrel chewed wiring before this insulation got installed. See the photographs of the air sealed attic flat and repaired wiring just before the insulation went in.
Installed 5 new black Harvey's Industries storm windows at windows that were missing storms (Jim, Seth Barrett- Village Green Renewal)
Hand dug out for a new foundation under the rear office wing with 15 yards of dirt into a donated dumpster by Ronnie Nunes of James G Grant Co. of Readville, MA thanks for their 15 yard dumpster! This their second donation, the first was a 40 yarder!
Andy Belt, Tommy Vitolo and his friends Jeff and Erik, Brookline Police Officer Philip Harrington and his son who dug like centurions, as well as 4 young lads from Brookline High School, talented Landscaper Colleen, Frank Farlow and 5-10 others.
Dug out old mortar in basement and patched many holes in the old foundation 10-15 volunteers including Cynthia Snow, Judy Smith & her granddaughter Sabrina, Cassie Baron, Maxwell Butler, Peggy Ueda, BCF Trustees Tom Mendelsohn and Frank Steinfield, BEF's Skye Kramer, Marty Farlow, Jesse Mermell and many others.
Cut in one new larger operable Harveys vinyl awning basement window (Rob Daves, Doug Ruther, Neil Gordon, and Colleen)
Duct sealed and insulated heat ducts, labor and materials donated by Dave Boyles owner of Atlantic Heating & Air Conditioning with help from Randolph Meikeljohn.
Cut in a new Panasonic bathroom ventilation fan donated by Economy Plumbing of Mattapan (installed by Jim and Seth)
Next month- Saturday APRIL 10 Here's what we hope to accomplish.
We will complete the digging of the new foundation under the rear wing.
Coat the interior basement wall with waterproofing cements.
Install one more basement window. Requires big stone foundation wall removal and rebuilding. Two done- one to go.
Replace the two old toilets with dual flush donated by Kohler, learn how to change a toilet!
Install two doors (donated by Macleod & Moynihan Windows and Doors) below the bulkheads to stop air infiltration. Learn how to install a door!
Finish duct sealing and duct insulation. Learn why this is important from Dave Boyles of Atlantic Heating & Air Conditioning
Install two new operable Velux skylights to replace the leaky ones at rear.
