How to Add a Photo to Your Blog
SCI’s websites are versatile tools which can be used to inform and unite the members of a community. The SCI Website relies on users to develop unique content. One way to add flair to your blog posting is to insert a picture.
Using this guide: Each step includes instructions and photo to guide you. In each photo an arrow will direct you to the areas you must left-click or enter text.
Requirements:

- Access to a computer with internet access
- An internet browser
Instructions:
Step 1: Creating Your Blog Entry
Login and create a blog entry
a. Login to your account. You will find a login box at the top left of your browser.
b. Create a blog entry. On the top left of your browser window click “Blog entry” in the create content box. (You can learn more about blogs by clicking here)

c. Insert a Title, Tag (a keyword summarizes the topic of your post) and Body (main text). To insert into each area left-click the box under “Title”, “Tag” or “Body” and type.

Step 2 Adding Your Photo:
Locate a Photo and Resize the Photo
a. Find the photo you’d like to use in your blog post.
b. Resize the image so it is no larger 500x500 pixels. Unfortunately because many programs are available to resize images SCI is unable to provide direct support for this step. Please contact the company that produced your image editor for support.
Insert Your Photo:
a. Place your cursor at the place in your text you’d like to insert a photo and left-click the
image icon .

b. When you have clicked the image icon, a new window will open titled “Image Properties.” Left-click the “Browse Server Button”

c. A new window will open. Left-click “Upload”

d. When you’ve clicked “Upload”, you will see the following drop down menu. Left-click “Browse”

e. A new “File Upload” window will open. Open the folder you have saved your picture in. This process mirrors using “Windows Explorer.” Left click the image you would like to upload. The image will be highlighted in blue and the name will appear in the “File name” box. When your image is highlighted and appears in the “File name” box, click “Open”. In the example below I am uploading a file named “image3”.

f. After clicking open you will return to the previous screen but the “File” box will contain the path of your photo. Click “Upload”

g. After you’ve clicked upload your uploaded photo should show up under “File name” along with any other photos you have uploaded. Highlight the photo you’d like to insert by left-clicking on it. (When highlighted your file will turn yellow. Below I have highlighted “image3.jpg”

h. When you’ve highlighted your photo, you should see your photo appear at the bottom right of your window.

i. Left-click on your picture. Once you have clicked your image you will be returned to the previous “Image Properties” window. You should see your photo’s file name at the end of the text “URL” box and preview of your photo in the bottom right hand corner of the “Image Properties” window. Now insert “Alternative Text”. This text will appear for some users. Insert text that describes the photo your are inserting.

j. Choose an alignment for your photo. Left click the arrow to the right of the alignment box. Then left click an alignment. A standard choice is “Left”.

k. Your alignment choice will appear. Now left-click “OK” in the bottom right of your window.

l. Choose an alignment for your photo. Left click the arrow to the right of the alignment box. Then left click an alignment. A standard choice is “Left”. Your alignment choice will appear. Now left-click “OK” in the bottom right of your window. Once you have clicked OK you will be returned to your original blog entry window. Your photo should now be visible in the body of your text. Make any final edits to your text and left-click the “Preview” button in the bottom right hand of your screen. A preview will appear at the top of your screen. If you are happy with the preview left-click the “Save” button next to “Preview”. You have now successfully created a blog entry with a photo!
