My name is Rohan Datta and I am the president of the Natural Disaster Relief Club. This is a club at the Brookline High School and me and many of my neighborhood friends who are in the club have organized numerous fundraisers throughout the year. The money from these fundraisers is then donated to victims suffering from natural disasters that have taken place around the world (ex: Cyclone that hit Myanmar in 2008, Hurricane Ike that hit Texas in 2008).

We have had great success over the past few years. Last summer we organized a yard sale that some of you guys may remember, in which people around Brookline donated items that they did not need and we sold them in a huge yard sale. In the end we raised 1,300 dollars, which was all donated to an organization called Direct Relief International, which gave the money to victims suffering from the cyclone that hit Myanmar in 2008.

We hope to have another yard sale this summer and raise more money which this time will be donated to victims suffering from a different natural disaster (probably Hurricane Ike or Huricane Katrina). This yard sale will take place on August 1st, outside my house which is on 147 Brook Street.

To make this as big of a success as last year, we hope to receive that same contribution from families around Brookline as we did last year. A resident in Brookline named Dan Lyons has already agreed to donate 4 red sox tickets, which we will raffled off at the yard sale.

I am sending this email requesting that if anyone has things around the house or old things that they do not want and are willing to donate, then you can contact me at 617-835-7944. We are going to stack/store all of these things that will be sold in my garage so if you would like to donate, call me and we can figure out how we are going to arrange to bring all the stuff to my house. We can probably pick it up most items from your house but if you guys could drop it off at my house, that would be great as well. We will sell these things at the yard sale to raise money. Also we hope to make this yard sale widely known around Brookline and beyond so that it can be a more unifying event, so please tell others you know who will be willing to donate or even attend the yard sale to buy things. The more items donated, the more money we will raise.
