John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site, the JFK birthplace, presents Cari Beauchamp, author of the 2009 book Joseph P. Kennedy Presents His Hollywood Years, at the Coolidge Corner Screening Room for a talk and booksigning event co-sponsored by the Coolidge Corner Theatre in celebration of its 75th year, Brookline Adult & Community Education, and the Brookline Booksmith. The event is free and open to the public, and books will be available for purchase.  Preregistration through Brookline Adult & Community Education is recommended by calling 617-730-2700, as space is limited.

Beauchamp's book presents the relatively  unknown story of the Kennedy family patriarch's major involvement in Hollywood during the late 1920s, starting when his family still resided in Brookline. In addition to being the only person ever to run three studios simultaneously, Kennedy helped revolutionize the American film industry and set the course for its future direction and business structure. He impacted the careers of a number of key Hollywood figures, including the actress Gloria Swanson.

Los Angeles-based writer Cari Beauchamp is the acclaimed author of Without Lying Down: Frances Marion and the Powerful Women of Early Hollywood. She was one of the first non-family members allowed access to Joseph P. Kennedy’s personal papers. She has written for Vanity Fair, Variety, and Architectural Digest and has been named an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Film Scholar. She once served as Press Secretary to California Governor Jerry Brown.
