Art - The Good Kind

JP brought in a photo and two beautiful watercolors she purchsed at an auction. MZ walked in with her friend SS, proud of her limited edition "egg in a nest". And there's JB, TA, CD and quite a few more...pity my scruples and my respect for their privacy that I abstain for revealing their names for I think they should be known and here's why. What they have in common is that the art they brought in were all acquired at one of our local fundraisers - in purchasing art they all gave to a cause that meant the world to them. Brava! Bravo!

Horror, Humility & Pride in Brookline

Today I attended a very special dedication ceremony wherein the “Hidden Brookline Committee” unveiled an engraving to honor and remember previously unrecognized African-American slaves buried in the Old Burying Ground, a historic section of Brookline’s Walnut Hill Cemetery. With about 200 other locals and guests, I found myself filled with humility, facing up to the horrors that took place within our town and country, and proud to be living in a community that would pull back the comfortable veil of ignorance and embrace the difficult lessons of our history.

One of the most interesting things I get to work on at BCF is the grants process.  I am fortunate to be able to learn about all of the many programs, groups, and organizations that are working to improve our community.  It is inspiring to see how many dedicated people there are in Brookline who want to help improve the lives of those living, working, and learning in our Town.
